Psychological Consultations operates on a one year (twelve month) extern training cycle typically running July 1st to June 30th. We offer a number of diagnostic, therapy, and advanced externships. All trainees receive at least one hour of individual supervision with a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, an additional hour of supplemental individual supervision, and participate in a weekly group supervision seminar lasting ninety minutes. Specific positions are based on need and availability. Strong candidates are encouraged to submit their complete application, by mail, in accordance with ACEPT guidelines and individual graduate school institutional processes. Please do not send materials by method require a signature of receipt. A complete application should include:
Diagnostic Externship: Diagnostic trainees complete 12-17 batteries during the training year. Externs participate in a weekly diagnostic seminar to refine interviewing skills, master assessment tools and develop conceptualization abilities. Assessment protocols include objective, projective and neurological measures. Trainees will gain experience in assessing for not only emotional and mental difficulties, but also learning disorders and HIV-related cognitive/neurological disorders. Therapy/Advanced Therapy/Advanced Assessment Externship: Therapy trainees have varied caseloads depending on number of groups led and progress of individual clients at any given time. Therapy externs participate in a weekly therapy seminar to discuss treatment progress of individual and group therapy clients, refine conceptualization skills and process issues of diversity, transference and countertransference. Externs will also be given opportunities to be creative and develop and lead groups. Depending on volume, therapy externs may also volunteer to conduct assessments. *The site takes two students to conduct therapy; we do not reserve one slot for therapy or advanced. We simply choose the two students who best match our site, regardless of therapy or advanced track. |
